Motion passed. Under Old Business: The church discussed the possibility of withdrawing from the Southern Baptist Convention. Pastor Lester Fatheree gave a brief history of events that have brought us To this point, for the benefit of several new members. Those events were: due to recent decisions by the national SBC, NAMB (North American Mission Board), and the state Wyoming SBC, and ~he withdrawal of funds to pastors who are divorced or that speak in tongues, plus other attacks and events that we have been through. There was a lot of discussion on both sides. Darrell Persson moved to not stay with the SBC. Second by Nelson Smith. There was more discussion before the vote. Jonathan said that if we chose to leave the SBC, we all need to commit ourselves individually to a deeper level spiritually; to spend more time in prayer and bible study. "We can't make this move and stay the same," said Jonathan. The members present agreed with this statement. The motion passed unanimously, with 1 abstintion. Jonathan suggested calling a special business meeting for three weeks from today for the purpose of praying about a new name for our church and to also compose a letter from our church body to send to the WSBC and to the SBC and to the SBC churches in the state. Lester suggested throwing out names and praying about them. Some suggestions were: House of Restoration, Community Church, Christian Republic, Soaring Eagles, Cornerstone, Lighthouse Fellowship, Christian Reformation, Bible, Fellowship, The Body of Christ and Church of God's Grace. It was decided that we would hold a called business meeting next week, January 11, 2004 to vote on a new name and to compose the letter. Church minutes from Maranatha Christian Fellowship, formerly First Baptist Church, Kemmerer, Wyoming Special called business meeting,January 11, 2004 C040 Jonathan Fatheree moderating Greta Hunt moved to enter business meeting. Second by Alan Holder. Motion passed. Alan Holder suggested narrowing the list of possible, names for our church down to three or four and meet again next week. There was a lot of discussion. The attendees agreed that the names should not have "Kemmerer" in it so as not to exclude any community. Also, maybe not "Community." The members also liked "Fellowship" instead of "church." Everyone wrote down their top three choices and the votes were tallied. The top three names were: "Christian Fellowship," Lighthouse Fellowship" and "Maranatha Fellowship." There was more discussion. Greta moved to call the church "Maranatha Christian Fellowship. Second by Alan. Notion passed, 12 for and 1 against. Maranatha means "Lord, come quickly," from Rev. 22:20. The congregation agreed that this verse should be our theme verse for the church. Moderator Jonathan Fatheree read a rough draft of a proposed letter which would be sent to the WSBC, the national SBC and to all the SBC churches in the state. Several revisions and additions were made. Pastor Lester Fatheree reported that we have been looking for new health insurance for Lester and Kay Fatheree. Lester presented two different options. Alan moved to go with the second option which would mean paying $368. per month, but has no doctor co-pay and to give the difference from what the monthly premiums had been ($540. per mo.) as a raise for Pastor Lester. Second by Richard Vlassak. There was some discussion. It would amount to $172. raise per month. The Fatherees could use that amount for doctor visits or whatever. Motion passed. Pam Holder moved to adjourn. Second by Alan Holder. Meeting was adjourned in prayer by Alan at 2 p.m. Kay Fatheree Church Clerk ApproVJed on: ~0 -~ rnx ,b -r 0 > > © m 0 --I ~ ~ 0 m m ?. m m ~ z --I --I I-" .<
